some people are of the view that word "Sahu" has been derived from the word "saahu kaar"(which means a person who lends money on interest or usury). According to the Ain-Akbari, the tribe occupied Tulamba, area near Multan in the 15th century. Considered one of the oldest established tribes in the Multan region. Near the Tulamba is a village called Mouza Hussain pur Aari Wala inhabited only by Sahu families. Mian Shah Mohammad Sahu was a leading land lord of the area.Famous religious scholar Molana Tariq Jameel also belongs to Seraiki Sahu clan and hails from Mouza Hussain pur Aari wala.Molana is the most respected religious scholar among his contemporaries. The Highest concentration of Sahu tribe is in Maarri Sahu(Kabirwala).

Mouza Sahu near Makhdoom Rasheed(Multan) is another stronghold of Sahu clan. The Sahu community of Mouza Sahu is inhabiting this piece of land for long 300 years. This Mouza was named after the Sahu landlords who were famous for their hospitality during the British Raj. Majority of the Sahu living in this region are Seraiki speaking(Approximately 95%) , however,Punjabi and Urdu speaking Sahu community is also found in some suburbs of Multan .

The Sahus of south Punjab (Pakistan)use different titles with their names like Mian, Maher,Chaudhry, Malik and Khawja as well. There is a famous shrine of Khawja Sufi Allah dad Sahu in town of sheikh Fazil (Vehari), whose Urs is organised every year by the devotees of Khawja Sahib. Presently Khawja Noor Muhammad Sahu(Ex-Advisor to CM Punjab Pervaiz Elahi) is at the helm of the affairs of the shrine of Khawja Sufi Allah dad Sahu [1]

Muslim Sahu of Pakistan are related to the Sahu Jats of Rajasthan and Punjab in India. They are said to have immigrated from Marwar in the 15th Century.[2]
